About Us

Our Story

Welcome to the Park Vista High School Band Program Website.  The Park Vista Band was established in 2004, and is comprised of over 300 members.  The band program at Park Vista is the school's largest student organization and members participate in marching band, concert bands, jazz bands, winter guard, and winter percussion throughout the year.

Park Vista's marching band, the Park Vista Performers is ranked among one of the finest in the country.   The marching band has been undefeated in local South Florida competitions for four years and has been crowned the FMBC Florida State 5A Champions multiple years.  The marching band competed at the Bands of America Super Regionals in Atlanta, finishing with top five placements for the past two consecutive years.  In November 2018, the Performers will be marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, an honor only bestowed on a few high school marching bands each year

The Performers have had the honor of winning the FMBC State Championship in the 5A division, three years in a row (2014, 2015 & 2016).

On a National level, the Performers debuted at the Band of America Super Regional held in Atlanta GA in 2013 and advanced to 6th place. In October of 2016 they placed 4th overall, as a finalist, in the BOA Super Regional, Atlanta GA, followed up by a 5th place showing in 2017.

Symphonic Band – The Symphonic Band is the intermediate level performing ensemble at Park Vista High School. Students in this ensemble will work on music for performances throughout the school year.  Students in this ensemble will be required to perform either a solo or an ensemble at the FBA District evaluation or some other qualified jury process.  Membership in this Band is based on an audition and Director’s approval.  This ensemble consistently earns Superior ratings at their District and State evaluations.

Wind Ensemble – The Wind Ensemble is the premier performing ensemble at Park Vista High School.  Students in this ensemble perform very high level music throughout the school year.  Students in this ensemble are required to perform either a solo or an ensemble at the FBA District evaluation or some other qualified jury process.  Membership in this Band is based on an audition and the Director’s approval.  This ensemble usually performs grade 5 and 6 music and consistently earns Superior ratings at their District and State evaluations.

Jazz Bands

Jazz Bands 1 & 2 – The Park Vista Jazz Bands are a highly visible and respected element of the Park Vista Band program.  Park Vista is privileged to have two jazz bands, JB1 and JB2.  JB1 is the premier jazz ensemble while JB2 serves as training ground for students wishing to advance into JB1.

All students, regardless of band, will study advanced styles of Jazz, Swing, Rock, Pop, and Latin and will participate in many performances and “gigs” throughout the year.  Members of the Jazz Bands MUST also be members of one of the concert bands, with the exception of guitarists, and pianists.

Membership in this Band is based on an audition and Director’s approval. Both jazz bands consistently earn Superior ratings on both the District and State levels.

Color Guard / Winter Guard

The Park Vista Colorguard is comprised of some of the most dedicated and talented students in the Park Vista band program.  These students are members of the Park Vista Performers as dancers, flags, rifles, and sabres.

During the second semester they are involved in one of the three Park Vista Winter Guards.  The Park Vista Colorguard competes within the South Florida Winter Guard Association and the Winter Guard International circuits.  They are yearly finalists at the state level and have won numerous first place trophies over the years.  Membership in this group is based on an audition and Director’s approval.

Leadership

Leadership development is an important part of the Park Vista Band Program. We believe that through our program students learn leadership skills that will help them be successful throughout their lives.

Dedication, integrity, and the ability to inspire others, through their actions, is the hallmark of a leader.  Our student leaders work to support all band members in their quest for excellence.

Participation in band leadership is not a right, it is a privilege, and it is not for everyone!. Leadership candidates must show through their actions that they are dedicated to service and have the ability to communicate, inspire, motivate, and encourage all members of the band.

Band leadership is selected by the Band Director based on interviews and observations made throughout the year.  Leadership positions include: Drum Majors, Band Captain, Executive Officer, Brass Captain, Woodwinds Captain, Battery Captain, Percussion Captain, Color Guard Captains, and Properties Manager, as well as Band Historians and Band Librarians.
